James Corden and Ruth Jones have revealed that Gavin and Stacey will be making a return this Christmas... and fans all want to see the same thing.

In case you haven't seen the big announcement yet, Corden took to Instagram with his co-star and co-writer to reveal that the beloved sitcom is coming back for one final episode.

Sharing a picture alongside Jones, the pair held up the finale script, as Corden wrote: "It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One."

If you're unfamiliar with Gavin and Stacey, it first hit our screens in 2007 and followed the two title characters as they navigated their relationship across borders.

Well... England and Wales, but it still counts.

While Gavin and Stacey drive the narrative, it's the unconventional family and friends surrounding them that really make the sitcom what it is.

Corden plays Gavin's best friend Smithy, while Jones plays Stacey's best friend Nessa - and it's their unexpected romance that left viewers in shock during the Christmas 2019 episode.

But while viewers hold their breath as they wait to see whether Nessa's proposal was accepted, there is something else that needs answering.

If you're a fan of the show, you'll be familiar with Uncle Bryn (Rob Brydon) and his nephew Jason (Robert Wilfort)

Throughout the entire show, we become aware that the pair went on a mysterious fishing trip together and something traumatizing happened to them... but we're yet to find out what.

Well, underneath Corden's announcement of the Gavin and Stacey finale, fans are hoping for answers.

"Fishing trip reveal or we riot," one person said, as a second added: "Oh my Christ! Please…we HAVE to know what went down on the fishing trip."

A third person said: "Please get through the episode then do the credits THEN a credits scene of a flashback so we can finally find out what happened on the fishing trip."

It really is one of the great mysteries of our time.

With the clues that have been given over the years, we know that whatever took place happened because it was "very cold".

It's also been mentioned that whatever happened is "legal in Wales" and somehow involves soup.

For me, the most eye-opening clue was when Dave from Dave's Coaches (who is the only person other than Bryn and Jason to know what happened) mentioned that it "defies gravity".

Like many Gavin and Stacey fans, I'm desperate to know what happened.

As Corden mentioned, the show will be played on Christmas Day 2024, on BBC One.

See you there!
