The 14-year-old boy who tragically lost his life in the east London sword attack has been identified as Daniel Anjorin.

He passed away in the hospital following Tuesday's assault, during which four others, including two police officers, sustained injuries.

A 36-year-old man has been apprehended on suspicion of murder.

Daniel was a student at Bancroft's, the same independent day school attended by Grace O'Malley-Kumar, a victim of the recent Nottingham stabbing.

Simon Marshall, the headteacher, addressed parents, expressing the profound impact of Daniel's passing on the school community. He urged solidarity and respect for the privacy of Daniel's family during this time of immense grief.

Jubilee Church, where Daniel was a member, expressed their deep sadness at his sudden and tragic death. Additionally, Holy Family Catholic School, where Daniel's mother is employed, issued a statement identifying her as Mrs. Anjorin and requested prayers for the family's comfort.

The Metropolitan Police is expected to release a statement later in the day. Meanwhile, condolences have been extended from Grace's family, with her mother, Dr. Sinead O'Malley, acknowledging the profoundness of the Anjorin family's loss.

Flags flew at half-mast at Bancroft's School as a mark of respect. The attack in Hainault left four others injured, including two police officers.

The suspect, a 36-year-old man, remains in custody, with the police yet to interview him due to his injuries.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley expressed condolences for the devastating loss suffered by Daniel's parents, emphasizing the unimaginable pain they must be enduring.

Dr. Sanjoy Kumar, Grace's father, described the attack as "horrific" and emphasized the shared grief felt by families who have lost children in similar circumstances.

The O'Malley-Kumar family, residing in Woodford Green, east London, have been deeply affected by the incident, which occurred just a short distance from their home.

The police responded to reports of a car collision and stabbing at approximately 7:00AM on Tuesday. As investigations continue, the police have confirmed that they are not pursuing any other suspects and do not believe the incident to be terror-related or targeted.

James Fernando, who witnessed the horrifying scene, told the Evening Standard that he saw the child being struck with the sword.

He told the outlet: "I saw a guy get out of a grey transit after crashing into a house. I saw him strike a boy with the sword. Police turned up and he ran.

"I stood next to the boy. It looked like he was gone. I was in total shock. He was in sports clothes. I can’t stop seeing the boy’s face.”

Following news of the tragedy, London Mayor Sadiq Khan expressed his sorrow, telling reporters: "I’m sure I speak on behalf of the entire city when I say our thoughts and prayers are with this young child and his family."
