Anna Wintour has revealed the three surprising things she never wants to see at the Met Gala.

Despite being one of the most eclectic and nonconformist nights of the year - with celebrities taking to the red carpet in some of the most daring, showstopping, and outright bizarre looks you’ll ever see - there are some rules in place.

Wintour, 74, sits as the co-chair for the biggest night in fashion, and, therefore, has a say in what goes.

From the theme of the event (with this year’s being ‘The Garden of Time’, inspired by a 1962 short story written by J.G. Ballard) to some minor details, Wintour has some specific rules she wants guests to follow.

And, as it turns out, that even includes what people eat at the event.

Speaking to The Today Show, Wintour was asked about a rumor that she had banned garlic, chives, and onion from the fashion event. To which, she replied: “Those are three things I’m not particularly fond of. And so yes. That’s true.”

As well as those three ingredients being off limits for the chefs, appetizers like bruschetta are also rumored to be banned from the Met Gala, News.com.au reports.

Away from food, guests are also prohibited from using their cell phones inside of The Metropolitan Museum of Art (although, as we’ve seen in the past, some stars will still snap a selfie in the toilets).

Elsewhere, Wintour has issued an apology for breaking one of her own rules regarding the Met Gala 2024.

The Vogue editor has long been strict about ensuring the theme of each Met Gala is as clear and concise as possible, so that guests aren’t left confused by what to wear and that all the outfits are clearly following one easy-to-recognize guideline.

However, it’s clear that some guests were perplexed by this year’s ‘The Garden of Time’ theme - which was chosen to coincide with the Costume Institute’s ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ exhibit.

But this led to a rather “open-ended” choice - something that Wintour was forced to address during her interview with Today.

“This exhibition broke my cardinal rule,” Wintour said just hours before the event started. “When we came up with the title ‘Sleeping Beauties,’ it’s wonderful and poetic and romantic, but actually, it could be many, many things.”

“I said, ‘What are we gonna say to people to wear to this night?’ And he [Costume Institute curator, Andrew Bolton] said, ‘Well, what about ‘Garden of Time?’” Wintour recalled. “So, I fear that we’ve unleashed a lot of confusion out there, and for which I deeply apologize.”

“The idea of ‘Sleeping Beauties’ is taking these masterpieces from different periods, and because so many of them are very fragile, they are laid flat behind glass walls,” Wintour shared.

Fortunately, it didn’t stop the stars from looking incredible on the red carpet!
