Katy Perry's mom was duped by the AI-generated image of her daughter at the 2024 Met Gala.

The 2024 fashion extravaganza took place on Monday (May 6), with stars including Kim Kardashian, Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, Kylie Jenner and Lana Del Rey walking the carpet.

This year's dress code was inspired by J.G. Ballard's short story "The Garden of Time" and is in honor of the Costume Institute's new exhibit, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.

The exhibition "endeavors to reanimate these artworks by re-awakening their sensory capacities through a diverse range of technologies, affording visitors sensorial 'access' to rare historical garments and rarefied contemporary fashions," curator Andrew Bolton said, according to CBS News.

Katy Perry, who has impressed people with her fanciful looks at previous Met Galas, did not attend the annual event this year.

However, AI-generated pictures of the 39-year-old 'Roar' superstar surfaced on the internet and went viral, with one garnering over 300K likes on X (formerly Twitter) and another amassing almost 100K.

The widely circulated image appeared to show Perry in a large dress covered in embroidered flowers, and butterflies. While the image was in line with the nature theme, the photo did not match official photos of the event’s red carpet and media staging areas.

The other snap, which has racked up 527K views, showed the 'I Kissed A Girl' musician in an armour-style corset with a key-shaped detail on the front.

Many fans were left bamboozled after finding out that the images were in fact - AI manipulation.

One user said: "This being AI just ruined my night," while another exclaimed: "AI YOU WILL PAY FOR YOUR CRIMES." A third added: "This is ai. IM DEVASTATED."

The 'Teenage Dream' musician herself shared the pictures on her Instagram page to confirm that it was made by artificial intelligence. “Couldn’t make it to the Met, had to work,” she cheekily captioned the post.

She also shared a screenshot showing an exchange with her mom, Mary Perry, who was also fooled by the snap.

“Ha Feather! Didn’t know you went to the Met... What a gorgeous gown, you look like the Rose Parade, you are your own float lol,” her mom said, to which Perry replied: “Lol mom the AI got you too, BEWARE!”

The fashion event was co-chaired by Zendaya, who donned two different outfits including a stunning Maison Margiela mermaid-cut gown and a dramatic black taffeta spring/summer 1996 Givenchy by Galliano gown.

Her fellow co-chairs included the Thor actor Chris Hemsworth, and musicians Jennifer Lopez and Bad Bunny.
