Disney has finally released its first trailer at the long-awaited sequel to Moana.

Check out the teaser trailer below:

As fans around the globe eagerly await the sequel to Disney's beloved animated adventure Moana, anticipation reaches fever pitch with the first look at the movie, along with the confirmation that Moana 2 will be released on November 27, 2024.

Along with the first teaser trailer, Disney Animation studios also released the first look at the movie - showing Moana and Maui, along with several other characters, on a boat looking at what appears to be a spirit-like whale-shark. Check it out below:

The highly anticipated follow-up to the 2016 hit promises to captivate audiences once again.

Reports state that the movie was originally supposed to be a television series - presumably for Disney+ - but this was reworked into the upcoming movie. Bob Iger Iger confirmed the news earlier today in a CNBC interview before the Disney studio’s Q1 earnings.

The first Moana film - directed by Ron Clements and John Musker - made waves upon its release (excuse the pun), winning hearts with its vibrant animation, memorable soundtrack, and empowering narrative.

Set in the lush landscapes of the Pacific Islands, the story follows the courageous and determined Moana as she embarks on a daring journey to save her people and discover her true destiny. Voiced by Auli'i Cravalho, Moana quickly became a beloved Disney heroine, inspiring audiences with her bravery, independence, and resilience.

Accompanying Moana on her quest is the charismatic demigod Maui, voiced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. With his larger-than-life personality and the beloved catchy track 'You're Welcome', Maui became an instant fan favorite, adding humor and heart to the film's epic adventure.

Together, Moana and Maui's dynamic partnership and infectious camaraderie propelled the film to critical acclaim and box office success, grossing over $690 million worldwide.

As excitement mounts for Moana 2, fans eagerly anticipate the return of their favorite characters and the continuation of their captivating journey.

While details about the sequel's plot remain shrouded in mystery, rumors suggest that Moana and Maui will once again team up for another thrilling adventure across the ocean. With the promise of new challenges, magical encounters, and hopefully more unforgettable songs, Moana 2 is poised to enchant audiences of all ages and reignite the spirit of adventure that made the original film a modern-day timeless classic.

In addition to the return of Auli'i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson as the voices of Moana and Maui, 'Moana 2' is expected to feature a talented ensemble cast bringing new characters to life.

But as well as an animated sequel to the original, Walt Disney Studios has also revealed that a live-action remake of Moana is in the works - announced by none other than Maui himself, Dwayne Johnson:

Disney's venture into live-action remakes dates back over a decade, with Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland igniting the trend in 2010. However, the concept of reimagining animated classics in live-action form traces even further back in Disney's history. Notably, the iconic 1996 adaptation of One Hundred and One Dalmatians, featuring the incomparable Glenn Close, stands as an early testament to the studio's innovative approach to storytelling.

The Moana live-action movie is currently set for a June 27, 2025 release date.
