A new actor has allegedly been chosen to replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond star, according to reports.

Craig, 56, stepped down from playing the superspy after the latest installment of the franchise, No Time To Die, was released in 2021.

He had starred as 007 in five movies - Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015) and No Time To Die (2021) - before announcing he would be leaving the iconic role.

Speculation as to who would step into Bond's shoes has been rife ever since, and now it's been reported that on particular actor has been given a "formal offer" of the role.

According to reports from The Sun, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 33, has been offered the role, with a source telling the publication: "Bond is Aaron's job, should he wish to accept it.

"The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back."

Taylor-Johnson is best known for starring in movies such as Kick-Ass and Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and the source added that the "incredibly talented actor" is the "perfect person to play Bond and will pick up well from where Daniel Craig left off".

Eon Productions, which produces the Bond films, is also said to be on board to shoot the new 007 film, and a script is reportedly being worked on at the moment.

The source added: "As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement."

Taylor-Johnson was one of the names that had been touted to potentially take over as the suave spy, and he addressed the speculation in a recent interview.

When asked about the possibility of playing Bond, he told Numero magazine last week: "I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment."

As well as Taylor-Johnson, other stars who have been touted for the role include Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Henry Cavill, however, Elba had previously ruled himself out of the running after revealing that "disgusting" comments about his race had put him off.

He previously revealed on the SmartLess podcast: "Those that weren't happy about the idea made the whole thing disgusting and off-putting because it became about race. It became about nonsense and I got the brunt of it."

If the rumors are true, Taylor-Johnson would be the seventh in the line of stars to take on the coveted role, including Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Craig.

The franchise has been a huge hit since Connery took on the role in the first official film, Dr, No, in 1962.

As yet, no official announcement has been made regarding whether Taylor-Johnson will be taking on the role.
