Squid Game fans, prepare to get excited - the next season of the hit Netflix show is finally on the way.

The streaming giant has revealed that season 2 is coming soon, after leaving fans waiting since the first installment dropped in 2021.

Netflix shared a first-look trailer giving fans a glimpse of what is coming to the site this year, including the Korean-language original series.

Take a look at the clip of Squid Game Season 2 below:

While the events of season 2 remain a pretty closely-guarded secret for now, as teased in the finale of season 1, Lee Jung-jae is returning as Seong Gi-hun, having survived the previous game's deadly consequences.

The red-haired man appears to be working to track down the sadistic gamemasters, as he is seen looking concerned while taking a call, telling the person on the other end of the line: "I will find you. No matter what it takes."

The teaser did not confirm exactly when fans will be able to start binging the new season, only that it's set to land on Netflix this year.

Squid Game became an instant hit in 2021 as fans were captivated by Hwang Dong-hyuk’s satirical game show in which losing contestants paid with their lives.

In the South Korean original, 456 players who are in financial ruin compete against each other in a serious of children's games, with the chance of a 45.6 billion won prize, equating to around $34 million.

However, those that don't win - or choose to leave the game voluntarily - pay the ultimate price and are killed.

Hwang Dong-hyuk previously told the Associated Press that he had no choice but to create a second season after the uproar the first one caused worldwide.

The director explained in 2021: "So, there's been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice.

"But, I will say there will indeed be a second season. It's in my head right now. I'm in the planning process currently. But I do think it's too early to say when and how that's going to happen."

Fans were barely able to contain their excitement at the prospect of Squig Game season 2 dropping soon, coming hot on the heels of the first ever real-life game show version, Squid Game: The Challenge.

The season saw Mai Whelan crowned winner of a massive $4.56 million prize after winning the show - though thankfully, the rest of the contestants didn't end up dead in the real-life version.

Netflix also announced in December that it was casting for season two of the game show, meaning someone else has the chance to walk away with an equally massive prize.

We're already counting down to Squid Game season 2 dropping - though when exactly this year that will be remains to be seen.
