Melissa McCarthy has responded after Barbra Streisand sparked backlash by asking her if she used Ozempic.

On Monday (April 29), the 53-year-old Gilmore Girls star took to Instagram to share some pictures of herself and her friend Adam Shankman at the Centre Theatre Group's annual gala in Los Angeles.

The actress stunned in a beautiful pastel-green dress and matching blazer.

Captioning the now-deleted post, McCarthy wrote: "Pastels only to honor the incredible @matthewbourne13 at the @ctgla gala last night with this fella @adamshankman !! Thiiiiis much closer to my dream of dancing on stage."

Plenty of people complimented the post, praising the star's stylish look.

"I love this outfit on you! Love the green, love the ruffles & tiers, and I LOVE the lower neckline! It’s nice to see you branching out in a different way. You look beautiful!" one user wrote.

Another said: "Wow you look absolutely stunning," while a third added: "I love this dress it’s so different from what you normally wear especially the color it looks amazing on you as everything does!"

According to the Instagram page CommentsbyCelebs, Streisand also shared a comment under the Bridesmaids actress's post, apparently writing: "Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?"

The comment was then quickly removed, but not before fans managed to take screenshots.

Ozempic is a type 2 diabetes medication that has become a trending topic due to several well-known celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Kelly Osbourne, Rebel Wilson, and Emily Simpson attributing their dramatic weight transformations to the drug.

According to Diabetes.org, people who use it can lose weight due to the medication's ability to "reduce your appetite so you eat less," while simultaneously "slowing down the movement of food in your gut meaning you stay full for longer."

The 82-year-old EGOT winner quickly faced criticism for her question, as many of McCarthy's followers rushed to the comments section to defend her.

"What happened to not [talking] about Bodies! As a mother of a daughter that’s not ok we as women need to not focus on appearance," one person said, per Daily Mail.

It wasn’t long until Streisand put out a statement addressing the critics, writing: “OMG – I went on Instagram to see the photos we’d posted of the beautiful flowers I’d received for my birthday!”

She continued: “Below them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy who I sang with on my Encore album. She looked fantastic! I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!”

On Tuesday (April 30), the Bridesmaids actress shared a video on Instagram that showed her reading the 2022 issue of Women's World with Streisand on the cover, noting that the pair have spoken since the comment went viral.

"The takeaway: Barbra Streisand knows I exist. She reached out to me, and she thought I looked good!" she said in the clip, adding: "I win the day."

She was also asked by TMZ to comment on the situation and made it clear that she wasn't upset by Streisand's comment.

“I think Barbra is a treasure - and I love her,” McCarthy said.
