Of all the animals in the animal kingdom, sharks are probably the worst-regarded by mankind.

Maybe it's because of the terrifying blockbuster, Jaws. Maybe it's because they look like sleek, grey bullets, with cold, black eyes, and rows of razor-sharp teeth. Or maybe it's because of the (very rare) fatal attacks on human beings, but regardless, sharks have never been creatures that the human race has regarded with affection.

Then, in 2016, something changed. A video appeared on YouTube aimed at very young children, which featured a family of cute and cuddly little baby sharks, dancing underwater to a catchy tune. The rest is history. The short animated clip became one of the most-viewed videos on YouTube ever, and now sharks seem to have had a major boost to their PR.

If you want proof of this, then just consider how much merchandise these finned dudes appear on these days. Everything from T-Shirts and posters, to toys. But now an Etsy designer is offering customers the chance to purchase some bespoke Baby Shark themed sneakers for their little ones.

The shoes come courtesy of the Etsy store, 818 Vinyl Creations, which offers a range of colourful Baby-Shark-inspired trainers. The sneakers come in a range of styles and sizes, selling from $65 upwards, for babies all the way up to small children. You can even add the child's name to them for an extra fee.

Parents can choose from almost a dozen different patterns in colours like yellow, pink and blue, some of which feature single sharks, others embossed with the entire extended shark family, including Baby, Mommy, Daddy, Grandma and Grandpa Shark.

The original video was made by children's entertainment YouTube channel, Pinkfong - an educational brand owned by the South Korean media startup SmartStudy. It currently boasts an incredible 3 billion views and 9 million likes, and is the most-viewed educational video ever. Its popularity has even spurred an online dance craze in South Korea: The Baby Shark Challenge.

In fact, the video is so popular that a stage show, Baby Shark Live!, is due to launch in the near future. Commenting on the upcoming theatrical tour, Round Room Live co-president and lead producer, Stephen Shaw, told People: "We are really excited to be partnering with Pinkfong to bring a live version of their viral sensation, Baby Shark, throughout the U.S. and Canada."

He added: "Baby Shark Live is a world-class children's brand that transfers naturally to the live stage, and we can't wait to delight fans with this fun and engaging experience."

This isn't the only Baby Shark merch we've seen online lately. Walmart recently released a range of awesome Baby Shark bedsheets, so kids can sleep in duvets featuring their favourite undersea characters.
